Fireplaces & Hoods

Fireplaces and hoods. This section I have used the scrape to build these. I use a code rated firebox, prefab or fire brick, box flue. Then I surround it (clearance by code, check you code) with the scrap, glue it, wait  for it to set, then start cutting (shaping). Make a mistake?? add more, re foam and recut, untill you get the desired shape! try that with block or frame! Take a look.

laying out the base

I cut the scrap into tiles, cut ,place and foam

starting on the surround

going up

large pieces ripped by a chain saw and layed up and foamed in place. we tacked the pieces with screws just to hold them in place till the foam dried.

shaped this was all done in 5 hrs! with very little mess.

After lunch, we started to stucco!

1/2 way

Because of the concrete mixe into the stryophoam, it will not burn, try it (if you have a sample), put a tourch on it! And once covered with stucco, well, its concrete, or a concrete base.

The plumber on this job held everyone up, so, I statred without him. He needed to run the gas line to the fire box.

here's the rough shape of it.

Stucco ed, and guess who showed up after we did, the plumber, so... we cut a panel out, he ran the gas pipe and we put the panel back, done! And it did not hold us up, waiting for a trade to show up.
